Our Story

The story of One Family One Cause is rooted in family, memory, and a commitment to turn loss into action. Below we share the family histories that inspired our work — the lives of ancestors who shaped our values and the reasons we gather each year to raise awareness and support for ALS families.

Horatio Barclay

March 6, 1880 – January 27, 1949

Horatio Barclay was a devoted family man whose life and legacy are central to our story. He worked hard, loved his community, and is remembered for his resilience. Horatio passed away from ALS on January 27, 1949. His life — full of quiet strength and care for others — inspires our commitment to support families facing this disease and to honor those we have lost.

Phillip Dekelis Barclay

June 1, 1911 – December 13, 1984

Phillip Dekelis Barclay carried forward the family’s values of service and compassion. He lived a life of quiet leadership and was an active member of his community. Phillip passed away from ALS on December 13, 1984. His story — of steady dedication to family and neighbors — is part of why we fight for better care, more research, and stronger support networks for families affected by ALS.

Remembering Together

These family histories are more than dates and names. They are reminders of the people who shaped our values and the reasons we gather: to remember, to connect, and to act.

Each event we host — from our golf tournament to our motorcycle run — is held in memory of those who came before us and in support of families who face ALS today.
